KEYNOTES

DIRECT DIGITAL MANUFACTURING IN PROSTHETICS & ORTHOTICS
MgA. Ales Grygar

Abstract:
Direct Digital Manufacturing (2D/3D scanning, computational modelling, 3D printing) represents an alternative process to standard processes in P&O. The purpose of this presentation is to describe how Direct Digital Manufacturing could be used in P&O.
Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM) is based on these digital solutions: 2D/3D scanning, computational modelling and 3D printing.
Part of the presentation will be focused on an overview of 2D/3D scanning, computational modelling and 3D printing. The benefits and limits will be discussed.
BIOMATERIALS FOR BONE REGENERATION – AN OVERVIEW ABOUT THE RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF AVEIRO
Prof.Dr. José Maria Ferreira

Abstract:
Synthetic bone grafts are commonly based on calcium phosphates and bioactive glasses (BGs).Biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics (BCPs) comprising a mixture of hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) are considered better in comparison to either single-phase HA or β-TCP components.
3D PRINTING OF MULTI-FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURES
Eric MacDonald, Ph.D.

Abstract:
In the last decade, research has focused on 3D printing for not only creating conceptual models but functional end-use products as well. As patents for 3D printing expire, new low cost desktop systems are being adopted more widely. This trend is leading to products being fabricated locally and improving supply chain logistics. However, currently low cost 3D printing is limited in the number of materials used simultaneously in fabrication and consequently is confined to fabricating enclosures and conceptual models.
CONTRASTING SOLUTION FOR AN EARLY DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPY OF GASTROINTESTINAL POLYPS
Assoc. Prof. Jozef Uličný, PhD.

Abstract:
Patrik Jakabčin (my PhD student) and myself have developed an improvement of polypectomy of gastrointestinal neoplasia. Our startup SAFTRA Imagine prepares medical research to bring our patent application to market.
HOW NOT TO WRITE A MANUSCRIPT THAT CANNOT BE PUBLISHED
Karel Roubík, Ph.D.

Abstract:
Recently, the number of journals publishing papers related to biomedical engineering is expanding including the “predatory journals”. The well-established “traditional” journals can be easily distinguished from these low-level journals. The main principle of the high-quality journals is to publish only well-written, technically sound papers with a good structure and clear content.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

The Young Biomedical Engineers and Researchers Conference (YBERC) is a forum of young engineers, doctoral and other university students and researchers for presentation of new innovative ideas in the area of biomedical engineering. The official language of the conference is English.

Authors are invited to submit paper for review. Papers must be prepared in English according to Word template and instructions demanded in it. All accepted papers will be published in reviewed CD/USB conference proceedings with assigned ISBN.

Download template for paper DOC.

Please use strictly DOC template to keep formats and styles (with defined fonts, letters sizes, line spacing etc.) of your paper.

Papers must be submitted both in doc (not docx) and in pdf format.

All accepted papers will be published in reviewed USB conference proceedings with assigned ISBN. Selected papers will be suggested for publication in Clinician and Technology Journal. Authors of these papers will be asked to advance the paper and it will be reviewed by the additional reviewer of Clinician and Technology Journal. Based on their decision (dependent on scientific quality, formal quality, and agreement with the journal scope) authors will be asked to make corrections and provide a final paper text. However, all selected papers will be processed through a standard peer-review process which will be crucial for paper acceptance.

STUDENT COMPETITION AWARDS

The YBERC Student Competition provides a platform for doctoral and other university students to present their research results in the field of biomedical engineering. Awards will be presented for the best oral presentation. Only students who are the first authors of their papers can apply for the competition and they must present the article personally. Students can sign up for the competition during the registration for the conference participation (http://www.yberc.sk/2018/registration/).
